Exceptionally soft and warm

Cashmere is one of the most precious materials around, prized for its unique softness and comfort. It is a type of wool, but cashmere comes from only the finest fibres, selected from specific areas of the fleece of the cashmere goat. These extra-fine, down-like hairs are what gives the material its silky texture, but they are hard to source, making the fabric rare and highly sought-after.

Cashmere is often found in sweaters and knitwear offering a luxuriously soft feel against the skin while providing an insulating layer in cold weather. It can also be woven into fabric for use in suits and coats, where its fine fibres add a refined sheen and a remarkably smooth finish. Cashmere is often blended with wool or other fibres adding to its strength and longevity without compromising the feel.

Why we love it so much?

Warmth
Cashmere can be up to eight times more insulating than wool. Its fine fibres trap air and heat, providing extra protection from the cold.

Softness

The diameter of each cashmere hair is very small, allowing the fibres to be packed in quite densely with each other. This feels exceptionally soft against the skin.

Cashmere offers high performance without being bulky, ensuring that products containing the fibre are usually lighter than those made from regular wool.

How to style?

Effortlessly sophisticated

The same fineness that gives cashmere its softness and warmth also creates a sleek and sophisticated look. Cashmere sweaters are often knitted from fine yarns giving them a refined finish. They can develop a slight ‘halo’ of soft fibres, which should be seen as a sign of the quality of the material. Pair cashmere sweaters with chinos or tailored trousers for an elegant, polished look.

Cashmere can also be woven into fabrics for suits, jackets, trousers and coats. These materials will often be especially smooth and have a slight sheen that elevating any look. Try wearing this with crisp cotton shirts and silk ties for undeniable style. Cashmere accessories such as scarves and gloves are ideal for adding a touch of luxury to cold-weather outfits.

Clean and protect your cashmere products

Always follow the care instructions on each product.

It is often possible to wash cashmere items either by hand or in a machine using a hand-wash setting. Use cold water, up to 30 degrees, and a short cycle. Wash the product inside out and reshape while damp before lying flat to air dry. Always use delicate detergent.

Cashmere products can also often be dry cleaned according to the instructions on the label. When storing cashmere, fold rather than hang the product to ensure it maintains its shape. If storing for an extended period, place the item in a dust bag or sealable container for protection from moths.

Barbara Palvin Shares a Laugh with Donatella Versace at Milan Fashion Week

The famous Hungarian model and the iconic designer meets backstage in the Versace show during Milan Fashion Week.

26-year old Barbara Palvin was amongst the famous celebrities attending the 2020 Milan Fashion Week: Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Irina Shayk and more of the world’s top supermodels also hit the catwalk. Barbara looked stunning: she was dressed in a black Versace ensemble consisting of a collared cape-style top with a plunging neckline and a coordinating mini skirt.

The model accessorized with oversized gold hoops and a black leather quilted Versace bag. Black leather high heel sandals featuring a chunky ankle strap with gold hardware pulled the look together.

And after Versace’s amazing runway show, the model went backstage to get snapped with Donatella Versace – and later on with Emily Ratajkovski.

The bad, the worse and the ugliest: These are the most cringy Crocs of all time

Yeah, that’s right, there IS a KFC Croc.

It’s hard to decide on the whole Croc-issue: the holey, bulky plastic shoes are so ugly that they quite quickly became a must-have fashion item for hardcore and daring fashionistas. This style, where finding beauty in the ugly is the coolest thing, celebrates Croc crazy – and simultaneously subverting the very idea of what is cool. Long story short:

Croc is the shoe everybody loves to hate.

And when you thought that you can’t push the ugly-Croc game any further, there comes a collab with fast food outlet Kentucky Fried Chicken. Aesthetically, this could be the most haunting item of footwear the world has ever seen. Designed to look like a KFC bargain box and modelled by Dazed 100-er MeLoveMeAlot, the Kentucky Fried Crocs are emblazoned with juicy chunks of deep-fried chicken, with the sole painted red and white as per the brand’s signature packaging. Finishing them off are faux chicken leg decorations, and if that weren’t enough, they are scented, too!

Of course, this is not the first time the humble Croc has found itself at the centre of a hotly contested collaboration, having been reimagined countless times throughout the course of its 18-year history.

That said, not all Crocs are created equal in their ugliness. From its runway debut at Christopher Kane and its evolution at the hand of Kanye West, to its wild transformation into gloves and bags, we show you the best and worst of the bunch. But we warn you: you cannot unsee this!

COS ANNOUNCES COLLABORATION WITH BIO-DESIGNERS ECOLOGICSTUDIO DURING SALONE DEL MOBILE 2020

London-based fashion brand COS will return to this year’s edition of Milan Design Week, to present a large-scale collaboration with architecture and urban design practice ecoLogicStudio, marking the brand’s ninth consecutive installation during Salone del Mobile.

COS and ecoLogicStudio’s upcoming installation seeks to augment the interaction between the natural world and the built environment, presenting an interactive structure that bridges design and science. The immersive experience is brought to life through innovation which incorporates a diverse group of photosynthetic organisms; algae.

The work will explore the concept of circularity with new ways of incorporating biotechnology into the urban realm through the prism of design. While highly innovative, the installation draws inspiration from the rich history of the Palazzo which will host it and from Leonardo da Vinci’s 16th Century studies on water turbulence which lead to the conception of Milan’s canals’ system. The installation itself will remove carbon from the atmosphere, as a result of the photosynthetic process it enables, and will provide the context to investigate the multiple uses and benefits of micro-algae within the Palazzo’s walled garden.

said Karin Gustafsson, Creative Director of COS.

“For Salone del Mobile this year our hope was to explore nature’s innovations and how these can be harnessed to offer new ways to live our day-to-day lives while reducing our impact on the environment and our planet. ecoLogicStudio’s important work displays not only how science and biology can inform and refine our processes, but also be viewed as part of the aesthetic. We are thrilled to be able collaborate on bringing their work to Milan on a grand scale.”

Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto of ecoLogicStudio note “We’re delighted to be collaborating with COS to create an installation that represents an important and timely new step for us. We have been working for several years with the regenerative capability of many of our planet’s organisms to design circular processes converting what our cities expel into sustainable raw materials and nutrients.

With this project we have the unique opportunity to bring micro-algae’s photosynthetic force to the city centre of Milano, and the chance to address the relationship between art and science in the public realm, a fascination that we share with COS and that forms the basis our collaboration’’.

The installation will be open to the public from the 21st to 25th of April, 2020 at Palazzo Isimbardi, Corso Monforte 35, 20122 Milan.

Nike designs first-ever Olympic skateboarding uniforms for Tokyo 2020

Colourful artworks decorate the skateboarding uniforms that Nike has designed for the sport’s Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 summer games. And honestly, we would totally wear them every day.

The sportswear company has created uniforms for three countries, the United States, France and Brazil. They will all be bringing teams to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to compete in the sport’s first street and park competitions at the Olympic level.

Nike partnered with Dutch artist and ex-skateboarder Piet Parra to design artwork for each of the federation’s uniforms. Each look is intended to be unique to the country’s style and intended to pay homage to its sporting history. According to Nike, this year’s games are on track to be the hottest temperature ever, so the aim was to create a uniform that would be lightweight and breathable.

Nike said it also focused design efforts on making pieces that are at the “forefront of sustainability” by using more environmentally conscious manufacturing processes and recycled materials.

All of the skateboarding jerseys will be made from 100 per cent recycled polyester comprising “water bottles and other things that would go to waste,” according to Nike. We can’t wait to see them in the Olympics!

Elegant look and feel

For over 5,000 years, silk has been prized as a particularly refined and exclusive fabric. Its lustrous sheen, soft drape and ability to take on rich colours ensure that garments and accessories made from the material have a uniquely luxurious appearance. It’s also smooth and soft against the skin and is naturally breathable, making it extraordinarily comfortable to wear as well.

Silk was originally cultivated in China, and much of it is still produced in Asia. The fine, strong fibres are found in the cocoon of the silkworm, which are then carefully processed into threads and ultimately woven or knitted into pieces like shirts, ties or scarves. Silk can also be found blended with wool or cotton, adding smoothness and sheen to knitwear or suits.

Reasons to invest:

APPEARANCE

Even very good synthetic fibres cannot capture the quality of the sheen or the smoothness of the drape of real silk. Whether woven or knitted, it is always flattering, and its ability to take on strong colours creates bold, elegant pieces.

TEMPERATURE REGULATING

Silk works for any climate: in the cold it traps the heat and will help insulate the body. In warmer weather, it wicks moisture away from the skin, keeping you feeling fresh and dry.

NON-ALLERGENIC

Silk is an entirely natural material. The structure of its proteins makes it one of the most non-allergenic of all fabrics, and it can safely be worn directly against many skin types, even sensitive skin.

DURABLE

Silk has a similar tensile strength to steel, and it resists stains and odours well. Don’t be fooled by the delicate look of the fabric. Silk is incredibly durable and long-lasting.

How to style:

Entire garments, such as shirts or dresses, can be made out of silk for a particularly sophisticated look, and the fabric can help you transition from business to evening attire flawlessly. For an elevated appearance, add silk accessories to any outfit, such as with a knitted or woven tie, a pocket square or a lightweight scarf. It can also be found blended with other materials such as wool or cotton, making the fabrics lighter and more lustrous in the process.

How to clean:

Always follow the care instructions on each product. It is possible to dry clean most products containing silk, and this is usually the preferred option to protect the fabric. Certain silk products can be washed at home. To do this, wash your silk pieces by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent. Soak them for up to five minutes before rinsing with cold water. Do not wring silk to dry it. Wrap it in a towel and gently squeeze, leaving to air dry while flat. Silk should always be ironed at a low temperature.

Naomi Campbell Stars for the First Time for Vivienne Westwood’s Campaign

It’s been 33 years in the making and its as iconic and punk as we expected.

When you think of Vivienne Westwood and Naomi Campbell, you’re likely to remember Campbell tripping in her monstrous heels at Westwood’s AW93-94 Fashion Show. But now the pair have come together again, and this time it is in the form of the designer’s latest campaign. Although Campbell and Westwood have worked together many times since that iconic runway show, SS20 marks the first time the model stars in a Westwood’s campaign: a series which has been 33 years in the making.

Known for her extravagant pieces, Westwood was inspired by mythology for this shoot. Now 49-year-old Campbell is captured wearing a red gown and statement white gloves while carrying the branch of a tree. Elsewhere she is wearing nothing but a tulle layered hat, a necktie and brown heels.

Shot on the alleys and backstreet’s of Paris’ 18th district against a white wall lit up by neon lights, the campaign also features Westwood herself, her fashion designer husband Andreas Kronthaler, and model Kandioura Fissourou, all captured by fashion photographer Juergen Teller.

Campbell said of the campaign:

“I believe things in life come along when they are meant to. It’s taken 33 years to do a Westwood Campaign and I’m so happy to be doing it in my 49th year. It’s meant to be when its meant to be.”
